Usage based insurance supported with Ford Company

State Farm is expanding its Drive Safe and Save usage based insurance program to include cars equipped with Ford’s Sync telematics system.

Also known as “pay as you go,” usage based insurance programs look at how many miles drivers put on their cars and calculate premiums accordingly. Drivers willing to share how many miles they have traveled could get discounts between 10 and 40 percent in exchange for providing the insurer with a more accurate picture of their vehicle-use habits.

Because usage based insurance, Sync’s Vehicle Health Report already keeps track of a car’s mileage, Sync-equipped vehicles from model years after 2009 are ready to report verified odometer readings to State Farm to calculate possible premium discounts. The insurer also offers Drive Safe and Save to drivers who have installed OnStar’s after market FMV mirror in their vehicles. In cars without compatible in-vehicle telematics systems, State Farm requires a driver to plug a data recorder into a car’s OBD II diagnostic port, which then sends mileage reports back to the insurance company. For usage based insurance , Sync users, there is no additional cost to join Drive Safe and Save. Premium discounts are calculated every six months when policies are renewed. Though the program will be initially limited to Utah residents, Ford said it would be expanding to other states shortly thereafter.

Google map vs the Rest

Google map vs new startup maps

Google starts mapping project which is known with the name google map is focused on so-called driver-assistance systems that enable
cars to automate some driving features and help them see what is ahead or
around a corner. Google released an early version of this in December, called
Vehicle Mapping Service that incorporates sensor data from cars into their
maps.

Google new solutions

For now, Google is offering it to carmakers that use Android Automotive; the company has embedded operating system for cars. Google has named three partners for that system to date, but other automakers are reluctant to hand their dashboards over to the search giant. So Google is looking to expand the features on the mapping service and find other ways to distribute it, these people said.

“We’ve built a comprehensive map of the world for people and we are working to expand
the utility to our maps to cars,” a google tracking spokesperson said in a statement.
She declined to comment on plans.

At the same time, Way Mo and the other giants with sizable driverless research arms—including General Motors Co., Uber Technologies Inc. and Ford Motor Co.—are all sending out their own fleets to create rich, detailed HD maps for
use in driverless cars. There are also smaller startups hawking gadgets or
specialized software to build these maps for automakers that find themselves
farther behind. Still other suppliers are working on mapping services for
conventional cars with limited robotic feature.

These self-driving maps are far more demanding than older digital ones in Google map , prompting huge investments across Detroit, Silicon Valley and China. “An autonomous vehicle wants that to be as precise, accurate and up-to-date as possible,” said Bryan Sale sky, who leads Argo AI LLC, a year-old startup backed by a $1 billion investment by Ford. The “off-the-shelf solution doesn’t quite exist.”

Cloud can drive your automotive

Today, buying a car is still one of the most emotional purchases we make. Although, it is hard To believe the data generated by cloud automotive from the car will be worth more than the value of the vehicle itself.

Regarding McKinsey and Company, shared mobility and data-driven services could expand  revenue pools by 30 percent, adding up to $ 1.5 trillion by 2030.

The overall driving experience and the way automotive makers do business will oppose. revolution because of connected cars today and self-driving vehicles in the future become the standards.

Some payers have tried to build and manage their own IT infrastructure. Perhaps a better way would be to focus their scarce resources on perfecting their “secret sauce”. Instead, turn to the power of the cloud to help unlock value and address the most complex of technological challenges.

If Broadcom Ltd’s unsolicited $103 billion bid for Qualcomm Inc succeeds, it could set up a battle in connected cars (iot) with Intel

Corp for dominance in the production of the next generation of communications chips, which will play a vital role in so-called connected.

Vehicles of every sort and fleet vehicle already are starting to add wireless chips to download everything from maps to entertainment,

and in a few years, nearly every new car may be connected. Self-driving cars, still in test mode, will accelerate the move.

“The amount of chips per car is going to grow dramatically,” said Egil Juliussen, a principal analyst for automotive
technology at IHSMarkit.

in connected cars (iot) Chip makers are scrambling to create new mobile networks, the so-called fifth generation,

which will link phones as well as fleet vehicle , drones
and even industrial devices such as smart street lights, which count pedestrians and send data to city planners.

in connected cars (iot) Qualcomm long was the dominant communications chip maker for
mobile phones , although computer chip maker Intel has begun muscling into the space.
Each now supplies about half Apple Inc’s iPhone communications chips, for
instance.
